Getting enough sleep is something students tend to struggle with. Not getting enough rest can lead to a drowsy feeling in the morning, harder time concentrating in class, and low energy throughout the day. There are ways students can get enough sleep at night even when they have many assignments to complete. Once students are able to balance their time and get a good amount of sleep, despite busy academic schedules and extracurricular activities, they will be able to wake up in the morning with more energy.
It is important to sleep in order to have enough energy to get through the day. Not getting enough rest can lead to low energy in the morning. However, there are different methods to ensure that students get enough sleep. Such methods include listening to soft music, eating a light snack, shutting off electronics before bed, and many more can help students get sleep despite their schedules. “I make sure that I get enough sleep by maybe listening to music and going to bed early,” stated Freshman Yousef Masry. Masry always makes sure that he gets enough sleep at night in order to feel energized and productive throughout the day. Freshman Chloe Koblinski also stated, “Basically, I try to go to bed by a certain time, or if I don't get enough sleep at night, I’ll take thirty minute naps when I get home before I go to practice.” Koblinski added, “I sometimes look through my phone before I go to bed and listen to music as well.” Both Masry and Koblinski present different ways students and teens can balance sleep with their schedules and extracurricular activities.
Going a night without proper rest can lead to problems with students’ health. Sleep deprivation and drowsiness are common among teenagers which are caused by stress and poor sleeping habits. Students’ grades and attention span are poor because of imperfect sleeping habits. Therefore, it is essential for students to find time to rest even with their busy schedules. Masry and Koblinski explained the importance of sleeping for students. “It’s important to sleep so you can have enough energy for the day and to not deal with drowsiness in the morning,” Koblinski noted, “Sleeping is good for everyone and is healthy too.” It can be easy for teens to balance the amount of time they sleep with their schedules, so it is important to get a good night’s rest, otherwise it can lead to poor nighttime habits.
Sleeping is something that provides health benefits and academic benefits for students, so getting enough rest throughout the day is essential for getting through the day. With the help of different methods to achieve more sleep to save more time for activities, teens will be able to balance their time sleeping and feel stress-free in the morning.
