There is much for high school students to look forward to as the year goes on, but often times tasks from day to day life end up gobbling up student’s savings. Fortunately with the help of various applications and websites, making money can be simple and effective for students. There are many products that are popular to buy and sell and students can easily make these products too.
Online, there are many websites that specialize in selling particular products. Some of these websites are places like Etsy, which sells crafts and art-related products, eBay, which allows its users to sell just about anything, Letgo, which sells similarly to eBay but finds local buyers and sellers, and Depop, which sells clothing and accessories. Although there are many other websites out there, these tend to be the most successful and most popular. When selling products online, it is important to be patient and persistent. Oftentimes, users have to build up followers before the cash really starts flowing. Junior Julia Leslie finds inspiration by, “looking at famous profiles or watching YouTube videos that deal with fashion and what’s popular or in season.” Once a student has found the inspiration for the products to sell, looking and acting professional will help students come off as trustworthy and will be more likely to sell their product. The products being sold should be in good condition and accurate to the description as well as being at a reasonable price. Leslie said, “I use Depop and Ebay and make usually around one hundred bucks a week. [I did this] by selling clothes and accessories.” With a little hard work and creativity, students are sure to make money on these different sites.
There are many different products that are popular to sell from different categories. Some of the most popular products to sell are things like clothing, makeup, shoes, furniture, electronics, artwork, jewelry, and toys. “Popular products are hoop earrings, unique pieces of clothing and belts,” Leslie said. If students have old, gently used products like toys or clothing, websites such as Letgo are great for giving those products a new home. Leslie said, “I had too many clothes, and I didn’t know what to do with them so I sold them online.” Old school and vintage looks are becoming more and more popular, and some are willing to pay full price for things like mom jeans, long skirts, overalls, and graphic tees. Handmade artwork is also popular, so students with a little creative edge can sell artwork online for a good price. The best way to sell well on these sites is to be creative and original.
These sites can be a great way to buy or sell products to people everywhere. There are many different ways to make hobbies become businesses, and students can look for more advice from friends, family, and online. “Some advice: the customer is always right,” Leslie said. With persistence and determination, small shops can easily become a big hit. Students should keep an eye out for good products to sell and good deals at local thrift shops and keep working towards making money and saving up.
